The Mosquito and the
Lion.
“Ha, and I have to be afraid of you?” a
mosquito laughed mockingly when he saw a lion walking in the forest
and sharpening his nails on a tree. “You’re not stronger than I am.”
The lion turned to the mosquito and said: “You’re a small
mosquito, dear fellow, and I’m the king of beasts. I’m big, I’m
strong and I’m dangerous. Why should people fear you? When I jump on
a man’s head, I’ll press them flat. You can’t do the same.”
“I was not talking about your charming weight, I was talking
about strength,” the mosquito answered. “There’s no reason to fear
you for that. I’m stronger than you are, because I’m small and as
quick as lightning. You’re fat, you’re sluggish and you’re clumsy.
You’re calling yourself “The King Of Beasts?” Ha! Don’t make me
laugh. Come on, let’s fight, I bet I can dethrone you without much
difficulty. I...”
“You’re terribly annoying!”the lion sighed
“Please stop it!”
But the mosquito didn’t stop and went on
with his affronts. “Ha, look at that! Our king is verbally beaten by
a simple organism like me! Ha! People fear your nails and your jaws,
your roaring and your bulky shape, but is there really a reason to
be afraid of you? Are you inexhaustible? Invincible? Invulnerable?
Ha! You are simple, impotent, unsightly, undangerous, ludicrous,
corpulent...”
“...but still thrice your size!” the lion
laughed triumphantly, raised his claw and flattened the mosquito.
