The Gibli Theatre
Troupe.
The Gibli Theatre Troupe is well-known for
its outdoor productions. Sometimes the Giblites perform in Ex's
parks, or in the hedge maze which surrounds the city, but once every
two years they move beyond the maze and stage a show in the Forest of
Ex.
These forest shows attract mass attention. For weeks before
and after a season, the only conversation you will hear is, " The
play! What is it? What was it? Do they still have that cello player
suspended from a tree ? Is it anything like last time? I heard Mark
Gorgon is directing. Yes, and Maude Gellpawn is playing the lead
role. No she's not, she's broken her leg. No, she pulled a muscle in
her knee. No, it was a dislocated shoulder. No, the director fired
her. The director fell in love with her. The director cast her in a
minor role and she stormed off in a huff. She was never cast in the
first place. I know someone who knows someone who says " - you get
the picture.
Here are snippets from a few theatre critics
who have reviewed the Troupe :
" Sharp, clever and
infinitely human ... Gibli's 'Gift of the Flaws' is the definitive
version" (Georgina Dobermann in the Exian Gazette.)
"
Ms Gellpawn has ... surprised me by acting well, for a change ...
Gibli knows how to wring the best out of its players " ( Greg Cult
in the Hearse : Conveying the brightest news to the intellectual
graveyard of the Exian mind. )
" A huggable play ...
cleverly executed ... loved the subtext ... great seats " (Tophat Mc
Clure in The Winged Messenger)
"... will surely
frighten small children. These people ought to be ashamed of
themselves." (Lucynelle Mumblechuck in Thoughts for Little
Minds)
Gibli is run by a woman named Swarm Edwards. She
lives in a loft next to the troupe's rehearsal space. The space is
located at 19, Talos Lane, City of Ex. Prospective actors are always
welcome to knock on her door and ask for an audition.
